Anna Kendrick has not made any money from Netflix film “Woman of the Hour,” revealing in a recent interview she donated the proceeds from her directorial debut to charity.
Kendrick, who directed and starred in “Woman of the Hour,” appeared on an October 25 “Crime Junkie AF” podcast episode, where she said the money earned went to the Rape, Abuse & Incest National Network (RAINN) and the National Center for Victims of Crime.
“Believe me, this was never a moneymaking venture for me because all the resources went to actually just making the movie,” Kendrick shared with podcast host Ashley Flowers.
“Woman of the Hour,” which as released on Netflix on October 18, focuses on the lives and experiences of women abused and killed by serial killer Rodney Alcala. Kendrick plays Cheryl Bradshaw, a 28-year-old woman who met Alcala on a popular TV show called “The Dating Game” in 1978.
Kendrick was so focused on making the movie and meeting the deadline for the Toronto Film Festival that she didn’t think about whether it was going to make any money until the week before the festival.

“I went from being like ‘Let me know when the movie happens’ to like ‘Oh God, I’m responsible for this.’ … And then it was like ‘Oh, there’s like money gonna be exchanging hands.’”
That’s when she realized she felt “gross” about it, telling Flowers that was the reason why she didn’t want to profit from the making of the movie.
“It’s still a complicated area, but that felt like certainly the least that I should do.”
USA TODAY reached out to Kendrick’s reps on Friday, who confirmed that she made donations to both non-profit organizations. They did not immediately respond to USA TODAY’s inquiry about future donations, or any other organizations benefited.
“Woman of the Hour” is available to stream on Netflix.
